While Nick Saban and the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide suffered their first loss in nearly two years against the unranked Texas A&M Aggies, former NFL star Tim Tebow is not worried one bit.
In fact according to Tebow, the loss could very well be the wake-up call Alabama needs to unleash their full power–something that the rest of college football should be worried about.
Speaking on ESPN's First Take, Tebow shared his reasons why he believes the Crimson Tide remain the best team in college football. This is despite concerns that Saban and his powerhouse Alabama squad could fail to reach the College Football Playoffs following their loss to the unrated Aggies.
“I don’t think it really changes much for college football,” Tebow explained, per The Spun. “I really don’t. I think it changes a lot for A&M. I think Alabama still, besides these guys [Georgia], I think Alabama’s still the best team if not the second-best team in college football behind Georgia.”
Furthermore, according to Tim Tebow, the loss should only “awoke a sleeping giant” in Alabama. He expects the Crimson Tide to be “ticked off,” which is certainly not good news for the teams trying to dethrone them.
“I believe you awoke a sleeping giant. I think you are going to have a ticked-off team. To have them where they’re ranked is ridiculous. Let’s be honest, Alabama is still probably the best team in college football,” Tebow added.
Alabama lost to the Aggies via a last-second field goal, 41-38. It ended a 19-game winning streak for the team, which is why it sent shockwaves and put people into panic. They're not just used to Bama losing games.
However, as Tim Tebow said it, it could really be a blessing in disguise for squad that hasn't tasted the bitterness of a defeat for a long time.
