Allissa DeStefano, 30, who previously pleaded guilty to animal cruelty, is also banned from owning animals for life and ordered to complete 60 days of community service.

The prosecutor's office said Lacey Township police officers responded to a Lacey Township home in November 2019 after they were alerted to a report about three dogs being abandoned.

After arriving, the officers found the house deserted and the remains of the dogs, police said.

An investigation found DeStefano was responsible for the dogs and abandoned them, resulting in their deaths.

She was arrested without incident and eventually pleaded guilty in court on July 23.

New Jersey prosecutors sought DeStefano to serve 364 days in the Ocean County Jail as a part of her probation.
