A fire of unknown origin gutted a home in a rural neighborhood near Sycuan Casino Friday, displacing a family of five but causing no injuries, authorities reported.

The blaze in the 6000 block of Dehesa Road in Harbison Canyon erupted about 11:30 a.m., according to Cal Fire.

As the flames spread into brushy areas adjacent to the single-story house amid gusty, warm and dry conditions, officials called in air tankers and water-dropping helicopters, said Thomas Shoots, a fire captain with the state agency.

The aircraft turned out to be unnecessary, however, since ground crews were able to quickly gain the upper hand on the fire.

The personnel had the blaze, which destroyed the residence and blackened about a quarter of an acre, under control within roughly a half-hour, Shoots said.

The American Red Cross was called in to help the displaced residents — two adults and three children — arrange for emergency shelter.

The cause was under investigation.
