Letter: Tenet should return to good faith negotiating

Telegram & Gazette

In 2020 all humanity was hit by the worst public health crisis in over a century, while we nurses pushed ourselves to our personal limits, never wavering, witnessing and responding to the carnage as COVID-19 befall hundreds of thousands of those we love.

We stood strong with our hearts breaking for every struggling breath that entered our unit seeking life-saving care. Together we fought the war against the thief that stole our families. We came in everyday to serve on the frontlines of COVID-19 combat, which was made only more treacherous because our employer was undermining us at every step, serving as more of a hindrance than a loyal comrade.

While the world stepped up, Tenet furloughed 10% of our workforce all the while counting its profits over saving human life. Today, our spirits shadow those halls. We have no shame giving up our livelihood for your dignity and rights as patients to safe patient care. We fought like hell to save every life against impossible odds. We ran in to save you and walked out on strike as well for your personal safety.

We owe this strike to those we didn’t send back home. If we lose, corporate greed wins. It is time for Tenet to bring us back! We are the experts at our jobs. Our community needs us! Tenet, stop your lies and your disinformation and return to good faith negotiation to end this strike and restore the good name of St. Vincent Hospital.
