Curtis Jones will miss Liverpool’s Premier League match with Watford on Saturday with an injury picked up on International duty. Manager Jurgen Klopp is understandably frustrated with the decision to use the 20 year old as a substitute against Andorra on Monday.
Injured On International Duty
After picking up a muscle injury during training whilst away with England, Jones was named as a surprise substitute against Andorra.
He came off the bench to assist Emile Smith Rowe to give England a 1-0 victory and there did not appear to be any reaction to the problem.
Jones returned to Liverpool however unfit and has been ruled out of Saturday's game as the injury has not cleared up.
Reasons Klopp Isn't Happy
Klopp was clearly unhappy with new England under 21 manager Lee Carsley and the English FA when speaking earlier today.
“Curtis Jones came back injured from the under-21s. Great. That’s not okay as well,”
“It’s really difficult to get in proper contact even with the English federation. They just do what they want. Curtis didn’t train, he wasn’t involved in the first game, they didn’t do a scan and then he played a few minutes against Andorra. Very important he played there! He came back with a slight injury and isn’t available for tomorrow."
“These are the situations we have to deal with. We have these massive squads so they can use players like machines. The federations, I mean all of them, have to think about the game again and not only their own interests. I’m six years here and we talk but obviously no-one is listening.”
LFCTR Verdict
It is very disappointing from a Liverpool perspective that the national team didn't do a thorough analysis of the injury and they rushed him back into playing.
The player will always say they are fit and want to play and therefore it needs strong management to say no if there is any doubt.
This isn't a good start for the relationship between the German and Carsley who had said before the game in Andorra no risks would be taken.
The hope now is this is still only a minor niggle and Jones will return next week for the big games against Atletico Madrid and Manchester United.
