Jon Gruden went from having the best coaching contract in NFL history to resigning under controversial circumstances.

By now, most NFL fans know the full story.

An investigation into the Washington Football Team revealed countless emails from Gruden saying offensive things toward a variety of individuals from all different backgrounds.

The language was hateful, hurtful, and everything in between.

That led to his resignation and now comes the question of if he could ever coach again.

His time in the NFL may be over, so what about college.

ESPN’s Paul Finebaum shared his thoughts Friday morning on why he could never see Gruden landing a job in the college ranks.

Finebaum is in touch with the college football world, so him coming out and saying Gruden should not even be under consideration for a job is telling.

A Tough Person To Hire

Gruden had to resign from his job based on things he said in past emails.

No apology was going to get him out of the situation and it is not even like he tried to offer up much remorse in the first place.

As Finebaum points out, there have been college coaches in the past who apologize for personal transgressions and get a new job.

In this case, Gruden said offensive things toward so many different people that it is hard to see a university bringing him aboard to lead a group of young men.

Even as time passes, what Gruden said will never go away.

That is clearly the case considering the emails in question date back to his time with ESPN before he joined the Raiders.

There are also so many other candidates to hire, making Gruden a controversial choice for no good reason.

This situation is still fresh so it is possible in the future that Gruden lands another job.

However, leading a college program would be a shock given the nature of the job and the fact, as Finebaum points out, he would be the face of an entire university.

The backlash would simply be too easy and obvious.
