Sometimes, no matter the weather, there’s nothing better than a tasty scoop of gelato, frozen yogurt, or ice cream. That’s especially the case here in Tucson. While the frozen treat might melt before it touches your lips in the middle of the summer, at this time of year, when the weather is comfortable, if not just a bit chilly at night, it’s a great way to relax and enjoy one of the finer things in life. However, just like any other restaurant in the area, ice cream shops and gelato stands receive the same kind of health inspection, and one recently was hit with 14 violations.

On that date, the United States Post Office Department completed the first test of the city’s pneumatic tube system, which used compressed air to send cylindrical containers filled with mail through a series of underground networks. The first mail tube took three minutes to cover the 7,500-foot round-trip journey from the main postal building to the New York Produce Exchange; inside, it held a Bible wrapped in an American flag, as well as copies of the U.S. Constitution and President William McKinley’s inaugural address. Several people experiencing homelessness and those who support them told the City Council Monday that encampment sweeps in harsh weather must stop. They spoke in support of an ordinance that would disallow sweeps when the temperature dips below 32 degrees. “I have been out there and have watched,” said Richard Creswell during public comment period. “No one can find their gloves.” He said encampment sweepers shake the tents of the unhoused early in the morning, telling them to pack up and get out. He said sometimes crews will use a Bobcat poised to bulldoze a tent to get people to move faster. “They say if you don’t do this, we’re going to throw away your tent.” Creswell said campers often grab the frozen tent poles with their bare hands, which feel like they’re burning. “It’s really cruel.”
