Bullitt County gets nearly $3 million toward improving water and sewer utilities
Bullitt County is getting some money for much-needed water and sewer improvements.This is part of an initiative to deliver clean drinking water and improved sewer and water systems through the Better Kentucky Plan's $250 million Cleaner Water Program. Gov. Andy Beshear announced the projects with local and state leaders Friday in Shepherdsville.They include:$307,000 to pump sewage from the troubled Hunters Hollow treatment plant to a Louisville MSD plant$395,000 for a new sewer line in Lebanon Junction$600,000 so the Louisville Water Company can provide service to 14 rural households.$1.7 million so the Nelson Water District can provide service to 25 households"Modern infrastructure is vital for the health and prosperity of our people and our communities," Beshear said. "As we work to build a better Kentucky right now, the Cleaner Water Program will ensure Kentucky’s infrastructure is top-notch, which is attractive to economic investors, will improve service and make healthier Kentuckians.""I just want to say, we're living in a time when basic hygiene and hand washing is more important than ever, and these simple tasks aren't done without reliable water," said North Nelson Water District manager Cole Cissell. "And it's hard to believe in 2021 that we have areas in Bullitt County that don't have reliable water."These projects are being funded through the American Rescue Plan Act.
