Suspect in custody after fatal shooting in Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood, police say

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A suspect is in custody after a fatal shooting that happened early Friday in Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood, police said.

The 37-year-old man is suspected of fatally shooting another man in front of the Greater Cleveland RTA rapid station at West 25th Street and Lorain Avenue, Cleveland police spokeswoman Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia said.

Police have not released the names of the suspect or the man who died in the shooting.

Officers received a call about 3:15 a.m. that a man had been shot. They found him with several gunshot wounds on West 25th Street near Gehring Avenue, Ciaccia said.

Paramedics took the man to MetroHealth, where he later died from his injuries, she said.

Officers found the suspect on a nearby bridge. He had a gun with him when officers took him into custody, Ciaccia said.

Investigators determined the victim and the suspect were arguing in front of the RTA station. The argument turned into a physical altercation and the suspect shot the victim, Ciaccia said.

The shooting remains under investigation.
