TOMAHAWK – The School District of Tomahawk Board of Education, during its meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 12, finalized its timeline to search for and hire a new District Administrator.

The search for a new administrator began in late August after the retirement of former District Administrator Terry Reynolds, who had previously planned to retire at the end of the 2021-2022 school year.

Joe Innis was hired as Interim Administrator last month.

During the meeting, Mike Ritchie of Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates (HYA), an education consulting firm based in Schaumburg, Ill., laid out the search process, and he and the board discussed dates to schedule candidate interviews.

HYA will speak to each board member, as well as numerous “focus groups,” including district staff, clergy, community businesses, local government, and members of the public, regarding the qualities the district and community are seeking in an administrator. An online community survey will also be available.

Ritchie told the board that the firm anticipates 15 to 25 applicants for the position. The applicant pool is expected to be whittled down to roughly six to eight candidates by the middle of December.

Candidates from that group will be interviewed during the first week of Jan. 2022. After that round of interviews, the board will select two to three final candidates, who will visit Tomahawk during the last week of the month to view the campus and meet district staff.

The board will interview the finalists during the first week of Feb. 2022, after which, the new administrator will be chosen.
