Upon arrival, officers discovered a 29-year-old man, unconscious and unresponsive, lying on the roadway with severe head trauma.

EMS transported the victim to NYC Health & Hospitals/Kings County where he was pronounced dead.

Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad determined the man was operating a motorized scooter, without a helmet.

While traveling northbound on New York Avenue on the sidewalk he collided with a gate, before falling to the ground where he came to a rest, officials said.

The identity of the deceased is pending proper family notification.
