Aaron Wan-Bissaka available against Atalanta after successful appeal

Manchester United have successfully appealed the 2-match European ban of starting right back Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer pointed out that his red card suspension should already account for the time missed in the match it was received against BSC Young Boys. The appeal has been approved and the defender will be available for selection when the club face Atalanta in their third UEFA Champions League Group Stage match.

Wan-Bissaka received the red card early in the first group stage match of the tournament, and missed the second match against Villarreal. Diogo Dalot filled in for the starter for that match, and though United won the Portuguese international was responsible for a number of chances for Villarreal down that right hand side. Danjuma was very effective taking on Dalot, and probably should have put the Spanish side up much earlier than they did.

Solskjaer has had some pretty bad luck with injuries going into a daunting run of fixtures, most recently the loss of Raphael Varane for “a few weeks” after picking up an injury with France in the UEFA Nations League Final. Club captain Harry Maguire returned to training this past week, but has only just returned to full practice. Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are the only fit members of the first choice back four, and the latter’s availability for UEFA Champions League action could be a big boost as United look to pick up momentum to qualify for the knockout round and keep their Premier League aspirations alive.
