NFL insiders are reporting that the Philadelphia Eagles are shipping tight end Zach Ertz to the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for cornerback Tay Gowan and a 2022 fifth round pick. The Eagles are 2-4 following last night’s loss to the Buccaneers and are in the league’s bottom tier of passing offense.
Ertz leads the franchise all-time in receptions for a tight end and is second in yards and touchdowns. He has 18 catches for 189 yards and two touchdowns this season.
The Cardinals are the league’s only remaining unbeaten team but are looking to upgrade at the position after losing starting tight end Maxx Williams for the rest of season with a knee injury. No other tight end on the roster has recorded a catch in the NFL.
Rumors swirled this offseason about Ertz being dealt following the Eagles embracing a rebuild, firing coach Doug Pederson and dealing Carson Wentz to the Colts. Arizona was mentioned as a suitable destination for the veteran, given the uninspring names in their tight end room plus Ertz’s wife being from the Phoenix area.
