The Red Sox on Friday revealed the team's 26-man active roster for the American League Championship Series against the Houston Astros.The team announced the roster before noon Friday, hours before Game 1, which is set to start at 8:07 p.m.The Red Sox ALCS Roster:Pitchers (13): Ryan Brasier, Nathan Eovaldi, Darwinzon Hernandez, Tanner Houck, Adam Ottavino, Martín Pérez, Nick Pivetta, Hansel Robles, Eduardo Rodriguez, Chris Sale, Hirokazu Sawamura, Josh Taylor, Garrett WhitlockCatchers (2): Kevin Plawecki, Christian VázquezInfielders (5): Christian Arroyo, Xander Bogaerts, Bobby Dalbec, Rafael Devers, Travis ShawOutfielders (4): J.D. Sale, a lefty, has struggled recently and only lasted one inning in Game 2 of the ALDS at Tampa Bay, giving up five runs and four hits on 30 pitches. Sale returned to the mound for the Red Sox in August undergoing Tommy John surgery on March 30, 2020, to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his throwing arm.Cora said he's "very comfortable" with Sale starting in Game 1. "I don't expect him to come out in the first inning. I expect him to go out there and pitch a good game and give us a chance to win," Cora said. "This says a lot about him and his trust in me," Sale said about Cora's decision. "I don't take that lightly. There's no hiding from it, there's no secret. I've been absolutely horrible, probably the two worst starts of my career back-to-back leading up to this."Sale said he was determined to prepare for this moment after his disappointing outing in Tampa Bay. "I knew that I had to get something going if we were going to be successful and I know that I'm going to be a part of that," Sale said. Cora also announced that right-hander Nathan Eovaldi will start Game 2 for the Red Sox. Astros manager Dusty Baker said his starter for Game 1 would be right-hander Framber Valdez. Luis Garcia, also a righty, is expected to start Game 2 for Houston. Astros ace right-hander Lance McCullers is not expected to be available during the series.

Sale, a lefty, has struggled recently and only lasted one inning in Game 2 of the ALDS at Tampa Bay, giving up five runs and four hits on 30 pitches.
