Jason Segel (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Our Friend) has signed on to star in a comedy series at Apple TV+, which he is co-writing and producing with Ted Lasso creators Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein. Apple gave the series a ten-episode greenlight, and Deadline reports the following synopsis for the show:

Shrinking follows a grieving therapist (Segel) who starts to break the rules and tell his clients exactly what he thinks. Ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making huge, tumultuous changes to people’s lives…including his own.

Shrinking is produced by Ted Lasso studio Warner Bros. Television and Lawrence’s studio-based Doozer Productions.

This is pretty much mashing up all of my favorite things, as Segel is one of my favorite actors, and one whose movies I regularly go to for comfort-watching, and Ted Lasso is my favorite series on TV right now. The writing is impeccably good, and it gives me a lot of faith that this series will also be fantastic.

Segel will next be seen in the thriller Windfall, as well as an Untitled Lakers limited series in which he will play coach Paul Westhead, and he is also working on the Apple Original Films adaptation of The Sky is Everywhere based on the best-selling YA Novel of the same name.
