A new update for Sea of Thieves is here, and it kicks off the annual Fury of the Damned Event. Update 2.3.1 also includes new offerings available in the Pirate Emporium, like the Crimson Crypt Ship Collection and Halloween Hijinks Emotes.

Fury of the Damned Event

The annual Fury of the Damned event is now live. Completing challenges will grant you favor with the Bilge Rats and award you with the Wicked Web cosmetic set. Also, you can earn favor by taking out the fiendish Forts and undead armies.

During the event, you can complete a qualifying challenge to make you eligible for Community Spirit Challenges. The objective of the community challenge is to eliminate as many skeletons as you can. The total number of skeletons you kill will add up to the global score.

Once the community has reached the global goals, everyone who has participated in the event will receive cosmetics and titles from the relevant chests found in-game. Take note that these rewards should be claimed within 72 hours upon completion of the challenges.

The Pirate Emporium

If you haven’t purchased the Plunder Pass, you can still buy it now. The Plunder Pass gives you rewards and early access to 11 upcoming items in the Pirate Emporium, Pirate Log, Microsoft Store, or Steam Item Store.

In addition, you will have the chance to buy some Halloween-themed goodies. For instance, the Crimson Crypt Ship Collection and the Halloween Hijinks Emotes pack can be yours. But you have to hurry as these bundles are only available for a limited time.

Game Changes

There are some welcome improvements in the latest update. The Outpost Signposts are now interactable, which means that if you need specific directions, they will help you find the most direct route to your destination.

Also, Sirens and Ocean Crawlers, enemies found within the Siren Shrines, will now drop Siren Gems upon defeat. You can sell these gems for gold in the Outposts.

There are some new accessibility options that you can enable as well. You can now disable screen shake effects, for example, by heading to the settings menu and toggling the “Disable Screen Shake” option.

Tons of other gameplay fixes and improvements can be found in the official patch notes.

Sea of Thieves Update 2.3.1 is now available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
