Needle in a Timestack

It would be amazing if we could go back in time and relive the best moments of our lives, or at least experience certain things again for the first time. In this week’s new movies on VOD, those old feelings and emotions are coursing through several films. In Sh*thouse, Alex (Cooper Raiff) is a college freshman who has a night he’ll never forget thanks to that endorphin rush you get when you develop an instantaneous crush. Meanwhile, over in Needle In A Timestack, Leslie Odom Jr. plays a married man who can time travel back to the days when he and his wife, Cynthia Erivo, were just dating to make sure nothing, and no one will interfere with their future happiness. (If only someone could go back in time and name the film something — anything — else.)

If only if actors could go back in time to make sure that the best version of their film was the one delivered to theaters. That’s probably what Frank Grillo is wishing for, anyway. The actor, who stars in the new action-thriller Copshop along with co-star Gerard Butler, has recently spoken out against the version of the movie that’s being released this week. Grillo derided whoever was responsible for the film’s final cut (fans have speculated that Butler may have been behind it, but there’s no confirmation of that), stating that his performance in the film is leading to him getting “bit beat up by critics.” Watch it for yourself to see what the fuss is about.

College is full of those all-nighters spent with strangers that quickly become friends (or more than friends), and Sh*thouse is the 2021 version of one of those intense, emotional bonding nights. Wrier/director Cooper Raiff stars as college student Alex, an unhappy freshman unsure if he fits in. He attends a party at the campus “shithouse” and meets Maggie, a fellow student that he develops a crush on, only she’s less attached to him than he is to her. It’s an eerily accurate depiction of college, crushes, and all the feels that go along with them.

Needle In A Timestack

Needle In A Timestack is such a sloppy name for a movie with actors and performances of this caliber. The film stars Cynthia Erivo as Janine and Leslie Odom Jr. as Nick, a couple who live in a world where time travel is possible and people can go back to earlier parts of their life. When Nick suspects Janine’s ex, Tommy (Orlando Bloom), of traveling back and forth in time to create a rift in their marriage to win Janine back, Nick decides to take drastic measures to keep Janine for himself.
