Brink Developer Splash Damage Announces New Sci-Fi IP

Splash Damage, the studio behind Brink and Gears Tactics, has announced that it’s working on a new science-fiction IP.

Over on its website, Splash Damage wrote that it has been reflecting upon its past 20 years of developing games, and while it enjoyed working with other studios on established franchises like Wolfenstein, Gears of War, and Batman, the team wants to go back to creating “another world of our own like Brink, Outcasters, and Dirty Bomb.”

“We’re thrilled to announce that one of our current projects is a brand new game, set in an original sci-fi universe,” Splash Damage wrote. “But why are we announcing without a title? Well, this is a unique opportunity to join us, and to have a major impact on our next IP, and help shape the future of the studio.”

In 2016, Splash Damage was acquired by Radius Maximus, a subsidiary of Hong Kong-based company, Leyou. At the time of the acquisition, Leyou was a poultry company looking to expand into the video game business. In 2020, rumors emerged that Sony was interested in purchasing Leyou, who had successfully ventured into the games industry by that time, and owned Warframe developer Digital Extremes. However, it was Tencent who landed the winning bid and now owns Splash Damage. Under the agreement, the studio will operate as an independent entity within Tencent.

“Our acquisition will allow Splash Damage to operate as an independent entity within the Tencent family, while we get to leverage their expertise to allow us to build even greater games as we move into our third decade,” Splash Damage said last year.

We’ll update our readers when we have more information about the sci-fi project.
