OREM, Utah — The TikTok ‘Devious Licks’ challenge has caused Orem City crews to close bathrooms in all city parks earlier than usual due to vandalism. The bathrooms are usually open through October.

According to the Daily Herald, five parks are in rough shape with vulgarities painted on the walls, soap dispensers and toilet stalls broken, and other items were destroyed or stolen.  Park management says they would fix the damage only to have vandals return the next week.

Jim Orr, parks section manager, says if one or more vandals is caught, the usual legal course of action would involve financial restitution and several hours of community service.  According to Orr,  so far cost to taxpayers in September, related to the vandalism in schools and in area parks, was about $7,500.

The original target of the challenge was vandalism to soap dispensers, which has been reported in schools in all three Utah County school districts.

All three Utah County school districts report vandalism to at least the soap dispensers — which were the original target of the challenge.
