Bolts coach Jon Cooper comments on Mathieu Joseph's status after 'sucker punch' from Dylan Larkin

It was a crazy game between the defending Stanley Cup champions the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Detroit Red Wings Thursday night, and not just because of the score. The Bolts managed to erase a three-goal deficit in order to beat the Wings 7-6 in overtime. However, the big event of the game was a sequence between Detroit's Dylan Larkin and the Lightning's Mathieu Joseph.

Larkin took exception to what appeared to be a hit from behind by Joseph. After getting back on his feet, Larkin drilled Joseph with what Steven Stamkos called "a sucker punch" right to the face. Joseph played two shifts after that, but didn't play in the third period at all. Larkin was ejected from the game. Lightning coach Jon Cooper was not happy with the sequence.

"Say what you want about the Joseph hit, there was no penalty called," Cooper said. "The melee starts and there's the attempt to injure and for us to come out of that four-on-three was mind-boggling to me. I just don't know how that got rewarded but it did."

Asked if there was a reason given by the referees, Cooper said "interview the refs, ask them."

"It's two points for us, let's move on," said Cooper.

As for whether Joseph was ok, Cooper said "I hope so."
