Which Subaru models have the most U.S.-made parts? The 2022 Subaru Outback makes a significant leap from last year. See where all Subaru models rank.

The new 2021 Made in America Auto Index is out, revealing the 2022 Subaru Outback made a significant move up from last year in its content of American-made parts. The 2022 Subaru Outback, 2022 Ascent, 2022 Impreza, and 2022 Legacy are all made at the Subaru of Indiana Automotive plant.

Since 1994 the American Automobile Labeling Act requires automakers to include content information on vehicle labels for cars and trucks produced for the U.S. American University's Kogod School of Business studies manufacturers and vehicles with the most American parts. In the latest data, Ford tops the list with the Mustang 5.0 GT. Where does Subaru's U.S. model lineup rank?

How American are the Subaru models you drive?

In the 2020s Made in America Auto Index, the Subaru Outback tied for 56th place with the Subaru Impreza. In this year's study, the Outback moves up seven spots to 49th place, tied with the 2022 Ascent and 2022 Legacy, all with 50 percent of their parts made in America.

The 2022 Ascent and Legacy moved up from 51st to 49th in this year's American-made index. The 2022 Subaru Impreza moves from 56th to 53rd, with 45 percent of its parts being made in America.

The domestic content would be higher, but all four U.S.-made Subaru models import their major drivetrain parts, engine, and transmissions from Japan. The report says the Subaru Outback, Ascent, and Legacy have 25 percent of its body, interior, and electrical parts are made in the U.S., and Impreza has 22.5 percent.

The number one selling Subaru model in North America is the 2022 Forester compact SUV. The Forester, 2021 Crosstrek subcompact SUV, WRX and WRX STI performance cars, BRZ sports coupe, and STI S209 are all built at the Japan plant have far fewer U.S. parts.

The Forester, Crosstrek, WRX, and WRX STI all have one percent of their parts made in America. The study did not list the Subaru BRZ sports coupe.

Subaru Indiana Automotive manufactures 35 percent of Subaru's total vehicle global output. Approximately 50 percent of all Subaru's sold in North America are built in Indiana.

The 2022 Subaru Outback midsize SUV moves up seven spots to tie with the Ascent 3-Row family hauler and Legacy sedan as Subaru's models with the highest domestic content (50 percent).

I had a 2015 Subaru Outback with 80k on it and not without some major issues. We just took delivery of a 2022 Outback Limited. The drivers door is totally out of alignment, the horn works when it wants to and the fit and finish is the worst, plus they removed the hood strut and now has a CHEAP hood rod. Subaru better start re-examine their quality control. I would have bought the Honda CR-V Touring, my son has my old 2005 with 248 troublefree miles…my wife wanted the Subaru

My 2021 Legacy Touring XT has several buzzing rattles in the dash. Less than 4K miles on it. Yeah I was surprised by the hood prop on $38,000 car. Basically these are mid 20K cars with lots of options added on. Not engineered like a 38K car to begin with.
