Eagles' first loss to Jaguars in program history

For the first time in program history, the Georgia Southern Eagles were defeated by the South Alabama Jaguars 41-14 Thursday night, snapping the Eagles' 7-game winning streak against the Jaguars. Jaguars quarterback Jake Bentley came out firing and guided the Jaguars to a 31-8 lead by the half. Overall, Bentley threw for 389 yards and three touchdowns and ran for two scores, becoming the first player in South Alabama history to account for five touchdowns in a game.The Eagles were held without a first down until midway through the second quarter and had five total yards on their first five drives. The Jaguars' 31 first-half points are the most Georgia Southern has allowed in a Sun Belt contest.A few Eagles shined for the team. Amare Jones caught four balls for 90 yards, and Logan Wright rushed 14 times for 60 yards. Alex Raynor kicked two field goals, and Justin Birdsong led the Eagle defense with seven tackles.Next up, the Eagles have 15 days between games as Georgia Southern plays host to Georgia State on Homecoming Oct. 30 in its next contest. Kickoff is currently scheduled for 6 p.m., it's a Blue Out in Paulson Stadium and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
