Showers, Sprinkles Turn to Thunderstorms by Saturday Night – NBC Boston

More clouds are rolling into the forecast for today, but our highs will still hit the top 60s and bottom 70s. Isolated sprinklers or showers develop today when a weak short wave moves through the northeast. Most of the rain will fall in the north of New England, with a spot shower in the south.

A larger system is moving in for Saturday. First, on Saturday morning, a warm front rose from the southwest to the northeast. This will bring more clouds, a few showers, higher humidity, and a gusty south wind with highs in the mid-1970s.

During the day, southern New England has plenty of dry apple picking or pumpkin patching opportunities. The sun even comes out some time before sunset.

Then, second, the cold front approaches western New England right at sunset and this brings widespread rain with a few thunderstorms. Every storm that pulls through can cause isolated wind damage. After dinner and overnight, the rain hits Boston. The rain shifts offshore until late morning.

According to this system, autumn air flows in. Sunday is going to be a bit stormy compared to what we’ve had lately. High in the 60s, airy and clear skies in the afternoon.

Cool temperatures will return on Monday and Tuesday mornings, with perhaps some frost in northern New England and higher elevations in Massachusetts. A small warm-up returns next week in the middle of the week with temperatures around 70, before another cooler air mass sets in for the next weekend.
