Maine Senator Susan Collins is among a group of senators calling on the Secretary of State to take immediate action to protect Americans from Havana Syndrome.
Dozens of new cases of the mysterious neurological illness have recently been reported in places like Colombia, Austria, and Germany.
The senators want to put someone new in charge of the effort to address the illness, which appears to impact Americans overseas.
It comes as three victims come forward to deny the notion the syndrome is psychological.
“Those that suggest it was made up, it would do a disservice to not just those affected, but to the national security of our country. We need to get to the bottom of what's happening here,” said Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, (D)-New Hampshire.
“It is very real, but unfortunately we still do not know who the adversary who is wielding this device or weapon is,” Collins said.
The senators applauded President Joe Biden for signing the Havana Act last week.
It offers more medical benefits for victims and a thorough approach to identify the weapon and adversary.
