We all know just how passionate Prince William is when it comes to climate change and protecting the environment. And as it turns out, his eldest son, Prince George, is already following in his footsteps. How sweet!
Speaking on BBC's Newscast series, the Duke of Cambridge revealed that Prince George has been taking part in litter picking as part of a school project – admitting that his son is "confused" and "annoyed" by litter.
"So George at school recently has been doing litter picking," he told the show's host, "I didn't realise but talking to him the other day he was already showing that he was getting a bit confused and a bit sort of annoyed by the fact they went out litter picking one day and then the very next day they did the same route, same time and pretty much all the same litter they picked back up again."
Prince William continued: "And I think that for him he was trying to understand how and where it all came from. He couldn't understand, he's like, 'Well, we cleaned this. Why has it not gone away?'"
He also pointed out that "it would be an absolute disaster if [Prince] George is sat here talking" about saving the planet in the decades to come – in much the same way that he is taking on an environmental advocacy role like his father, Prince Charles, and his grandfather, Prince Philip.
William pointed out how his dad has faced a "rough ride" through his years of raising awareness about climate change, adding: "It's been a hard road for him." He also highlighted how his grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh, had been an inspiration to them all on the topic, explaining that he "talked about climate change a lot more, very early on, before anyone else thought it was a topic."
It's clear that Prince George's love for the environment has been passed down through the generations, and it's something he enjoys sharing with his siblings, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis too. The Cambridge children are known to have a fond appreciation for the outdoors, and particularly love spiders. In 2018 on a visit to Sayers Croft Forest School and Wildlife Garden in Paddington, Kate revealed that she spends "hours" hunting for spiders in the garden with the kids [via HELLO!].
Zoe Stroud, interim headteacher at the school, said: "[Kate Middleton] said she often takes her children on spider hunts in their garden, which they love. They can spend hours out there."
Not sure we'd be joining in on those spider hunts tbh!
