Strictly Come Dancing star Ugo Monye will miss this weekend's show due to injury.

The rugby star, who is partnered with Oti Mabuse, revealed on Twitter that issues arising from his history of back problems needed to be treated. He added that the period of recovery should "ensure" that he will be fit again for the following weekend.

"Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to dance this weekend on the show," he said. "I have a history of back problems which has always been managed under the guidance of medical professionals.

"Unfortunately this has been causing me some unwanted problems this week! I have been advised by medical professionals and with huge support from Strictly to get some treatment and rest to ensure that I can get myself back to full capacity and fighting fit for next week."

Ugo added: "Gutted Oti and I won't be dancing this weekend but wishing all the other contestants the best of luck and will be cheering them on from home!"

Ugo's news comes a day after Robert Webb and partner Dianne Buswell withdrew from this year's competition over health concerns.

Robert explained that he sought an emergency consultation from his heart specialist after experiencing a recurrence of symptoms, adding: "It was her view that it would be better for the sake of my health to step back from the show."

Following his withdrawal, the BBC confirmed that the show will go ahead as normal including an elimination.

Strictly Come Dancing 2021 continues on Saturday (October 16) on BBC One.
