MARSHALL — Last week, the Marshall football team had a tough result, falling to St. Peter 44-18, putting them at 3-3 on the season.

Tyler Maeyaert completed 16 of his 26 pass attempts for 198 yards and two touchdowns while adding 60 yards rushing on 22 carries and another score. Tate Condezo had 24 yards rushing on three carries while Noah Wilts led in receiving with 74 yards on four catches and two touchdowns.Defensively, Caden Fenger led Marshall with 6.5 total tackles while Jonah Vierstraete added 4.5 total tackles.

Marshall coach Terry Bahlmann said they didn’t play well in every phase and credited St. Peter for challenging them right away.

“We didn’t play very well and it’s all phases; we gave up more points than we had in quite a while, they ran the football on us and we weren’t gap sound on defense and they gashed us. They’ve got good running backs and a good quarterback that runs the ball well,” Bahlmann said. “Offensively we struggled in the first half to move the football and the second half we came out and moved it a little bit but we were battling from behind the entire time. Give St. Peter credit, they outplayed us last Saturday.”

This week, Marshall will look to bounce back against Jordan in its final home game of the regular season today at 7 p.m. Jordan, who is also 3-3 on the year, is fresh off a 50-0 win over Belle Plaine and will be led by Noah Millhouse, David Buesgens, Alex Mizsak, Zach Schlicht and Owen Montreuil.

Bahlmann said Jordan will attack through the air a lot, so they need to be able to stop the passing game.

“Jordan’s going to come out and throw the football. They’re a good team and are at 3-3 like us and in our section, so we’ve got to stop the passing game,” Bahlmann said. “They’re going to throw it a lot of times, they’re a no-huddle tempo, so we’ve got to get lined up right and compete every play.”

Offensively, Bahlmann said they have to get their ground game going right away.

“We’ve got to be able to run the football,” Bahlmann said. “We haven’t run the football very well so far this year and our offense comes off of that so if we can get the running game going, then everything will click for us.”

Defensively, Bahlmann added they need to be able to put pressure on the Hubmen’s Millhouse and not allow him time to find the open receiver.

“We’ve got to put pressure on the quarterback,” Bahlmann said. “This is I believe the fifth time we’ve played against him and he does an excellent job and if we sit back there and give him time to throw, he’s going to pick us apart, so we need to get after him and give him a bunch of different looks.”
