Cymru North side Colwyn Bay stunned Cymru Premier Cardiff Met with Jack Higgins scoring the only goal to seal a place in the Welsh Cup quarter-finals.

But there was no fairytale ending for Saltney Town as the Flintshire border club, who play in the third tier Ardal North West league, were beaten 5-4 on penalties by Cymru Premier visitors Aberystwyth Town after a goalless draw.

Saltney Town were the lowest ranked team left in the competition, but could not quite create another upset in their sixth game in this season's competition.

Saltney's campaign began in early July with a 7-2 win at Ruabon Rangers in the first qualifying round.

In round three they beat Aberystwyth's Ceredigion neighbours Penrhyncoch 4-2 on penalties having also beaten another Cymru North side, Llanrhaeadr, in round two.

Cymru Premier leaders The New Saints were grateful to progress 5-4 on penalties against Carmarthen Town of the Cymru South after a goalless draw at Richmond Park.

Connah's Quay Nomads were the first side to book a Welsh Cup quarter-final place after winning 2-0 at Flint Town United on Friday.

Flint are riding high in second in the Cymru Premier, while neighbours Nomads - the defending Welsh champions - have gone seven league games without a win and are 16 points behind leaders The New Saints.

But Nomads, with Craig Harrison now in charge following Andy Morrison's departure, turned the form book on its head and took a deserved lead when Jamie Insall struck with a low, diving header.

Jamie Mullan doubled the lead soon after half-time and Flint's hopes were ended when Ben Nash was sent off for a second yellow card.

Buckley Town, another Flintshire team at home on Saturday, succumbed 2-0 to Taff's Well at The Globe, while Swansea University's 2-1 defeat at Guilsfield ensured there will be two tier-two clubs in the last eight.

In the two all-Cymru Premier ties, Haverfordwest County succumbed 3-1 to Bala Town while Penybont beat Caernarfon Town 3-1 on penalties after that tie ended goalless.
