Western Bulldogs star Bailey Smith is subject to a police investigation after an incident at a Gold Coast pub earlier this month.

Police confirmed to The Age that a 22-year-old man had lodged a formal complaint after an alleged altercation with Smith in Burleigh Heads on October 4.

It is alleged that Smith pushed the man outside of the Burleigh Pavilion, with the man attending hospital for treatment after.

"Police have received a complaint in relation to an (incident involving) a 22-year-old man at Goodwin Terrace around 12.10am on Monday October 4, 2021," a police statement said.

"Investigations are ongoing."

In a statement to Fox Sports, the Western Bulldogs confirmed they were aware of the incident but had already looked into it and would not be pursuing it further.

"The club has conducted its own investigation and is satisfied that no further action is required at this point in time," the statement said.

The AFL have also been alerted but won't investigating any further based on the current information they have.

Smith has become one of the stars of the AFL after only three seasons in the competition and is one of the most marketable names in the game at 20 years of age.

He starred in the Bulldogs run to the 2021 Grand Final, kicking three goals, including the match-sealer against Brisbane in the semi-final, before bagging four versus Port in the preliminary final.
