Updated 49ers practice squad roster after crazy first month

The 49ers’ practice squad has been a little bit of a mess early in the season. A rash of injuries at cornerback, running back and linebacker forced them to make a slew of changes to their initial 16-man practice squad as they tried to steady the tumult on the active roster.

San Francisco will go into their bye week getting healthier though, and should go into Week 7 after the bye with a chance to stop the constant shuffling on their 16-man practice squad.

Two recent moves, plus the bye, gave a good time to reset what that group looks like for the 49ers. Cornerback Davontae Harris was added to the practice squad, while offensive lineman Senio Kelemete was signed away from San Francisco by the Los Angeles Chargers.

In the last couple years the 49ers have had to dig into their practice squad several times to find contributors, and this season could wind up going the same way given the 11 players on injured reserve after Week 5.

One interesting note is only one rookie resides on the practice squad for the 49ers this year. Typically there are a couple undrafted rookies and maybe a late-round draft pick in that group, but this season only one undrafted rookie is there and no draft picks.

Here’s who’s on the 49ers’ practice squad going into the Week 6 slate of games:
