For the first time in program history, the Northwest Vikings softball team has reached championship Friday in the NSAA state softball tournament.

The Vikings won three games on Thursday, including a thrilling, come-from-behind win over Bennington, 15-12, to punch their ticket to the final day.
After falling in the first round to Bennington Wednesday, Northwest defeated Norris (15-1) and Wahoo (4-1) to set up a rematch with the Badgers.
It looked like history might repeat itself until the Vikes put up eight runs in the sixth inning to take control.

Northwest was close to reaching the final day of competition in 2020, when the team finished fourth. They'll play Hastings Friday at 11:30 a.m. for a shot at the Class B championship game.
