PENSACOLA, Fla. -- Congressman Charlie Crist was in Pensacola Thursday night outlining his plans if he gets elected to Florida's highest office.
Crist also announced Friday that he wants to legalize marijuana.
All week long, Crist has been crisscrossing the state trying to set himself up with a 2022 run against Governor DeSantis.
Congressman Crist arrived in Downtown Pensacola at a meet and greet asking Florida voters to elect him for the second time as the state's governor.
Channel 3 asked Crist why he wants to be governor again. He says it's because he loves Florida.
Crist said Friday was about justice for all. That's the name of Crist's four point political agenda if he's elected.
Crist says he wants to legalize marijuana. He says it's the right thing to do.
"Legalize marijuana fully, tax it and use that revenue to help our police officers and help our hardworking school teachers," Crist said.
Crist also wants to ban assault rifles, restore voting rights to felons, review sentencing guidelines of mandatory minimums, and expunge existing charges and sentences for misdemeanors and third degree felonies for marijuana possession.
Early in his political career, Crist was known for being much tougher on crime.
"When I was really tough on crime I was a state senator in the mid 90's," Crist said. "We were number one in violent crime in the United States. We don't have that anymore."
Crist also criticized Ron DeSantis for his lack of COVID and mask requirements. He blames him for the states' high COVID numbers.
"I think its very important to have a mask requirement," Crist said. "I think its very important that as many people as possible get vaccinated."
Crist will face fellow democrat Nikki Fried in the primary.
