In the days following your child’s arrival, a baby bassinet is the best and safest place for them to nap and sleep. Even though you and your baby won’t be sleeping much, you’ll be close to one another, which is one of the safe sleep recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics. Starting your baby’s fourth trimester in the same room where you do feedings and diaper changes makes nighttime check-ins simple and easy.

These are our recommendations for the best bassinets on Amazon.

Chicco LullaGo Anywhere Portable Bassinet

The Chicco LullaGo is an excellent option that’s priced at $120. While you won’t have the high-end features like Oeko-tex breathable mesh side panels, vibration or sounds, it does pack up well and it comes standard with a lot of extras. We liked that every piece of the LullaGo is machine washable, and that it can be folded and tossed into a carry bag when needed. If you’re looking for something portable and less expensive, or even as a secondary option, this model is a great choice. With that in mind, if you’re looking to maximize space, an all-in-one bassinet and pack and play like the Lotus may be a better option.

Pros

  • Washable

  • Portable

Cons

  • Not many features

TruBliss Evi Smart Bassinet

The TruBliss Evi Smart Bassinet is a great option for parents looking for something that allows hands-free operation, is aesthetically pleasing, and easy to use.

The bassinet comes with three functions—sound, rocking, and light—that can be controlled by Alexa or Google Home, or via the Smart Life App. I like that I can operate it completely hands free, or, if I don’t want to make any noise, I can use my phone. The app also controls the other smart devices in our house—no need for an additional app to find and open when operating on a sleep deprived brain.

The sound feature has three noise options: white noise (my favorite), a heartbeat, and nursery music. The gentle rocking motion soothes a baby that is accustomed to motion from being in the womb, and the light gives off the perfect amount of glow for late night feeds or gentle waking.

While maybe not the most important feature in a bassinet, I appreciate that it is also nice to look at. The TruBliss has a slightly larger footprint than some other bassinets, but provides a bigger sleeping space. This is key if you plan to follow the AAP guidance of room sharing for six months to a year. The TruBliss Evi is not easily portable, but that wasn’t a necessity for me, as we have the bassinet set up beside our bed and no need to move it. The basket underneath is great for storing extra swaddles and burp cloths. It’s large enough to also hold changing supplies, extra clothes, and even a breast pump. I love that this bassinet essentially provides an extra set of hands and holds everything I need.

My only criticism would be that the sound, rocking motion, and light operate on a timer that lasts a maximum of one hour. I wish this could be set for as long as the baby sleeps, as it would be great if one could program a scheduled wake time. Additionally, you have to shuffle through the sound options each time, I’d like a more convenient way to select the sound. These issues are minor in my opinion, especially since neither have caused my baby to wake as far as I can tell.

  • Smart home compatible

  • Functional design

  • Generous size

  • Expensive

  • Not portable

Happiest Baby Snoo Smart Sleeper

Invented by Dr. Harvey Karp of The Happiest Baby on the Block fame, The Snoo has been a top choice for parents since it was released three years ago. While it’s an excellent and sturdy bassinet, it comes with the biggest price tag of any model we tested. You could buy all three of our top picks for less than one Snoo. We’ll admit, the phone connectivity, built-in white noise, and the sleek design may make new parents swoon, but we feel that there are better options at better price points available. The Snoo has the same general lifespan as the other models we tested, and it doesn’t offer the portability or future functionality that we saw in our top picks. Like the Halo Bassinest it’s quite heavy and large compared to the folding models we tested.

  • Sturdy

Cons

  • Expensive

  • Large and unwieldy

Arm's Reach Clear-Vue Co-Sleeper

Arm’s Reach is aptly named—their products are designed to keep your newborn within arm’s reach—while following all of the latest safety guidelines. With a vast product catalog, we chose the Vue, one of their most popular models, to test out. While this doubles as a co-sleeper for parents who prefer to bed share, or a bassinet, it didn’t do either that well, and it lacked the security and stability of other models. We gave it low marks for the caliber of fabrics, sturdiness, and build quality. We never felt that it was as secure as the other models, and while it gets the job done, it doesn’t offer the same aesthetic properties that other models we tested did.

Pros

  • Doubles as a co-sleeper

Cons

  • Lacks security and stability

MiClassic 2 in 1 Bassinet

The MiClassic received pretty low marks among the bassinets we tested. For starters, we never felt like it was fully open when we unfolded it. There always seemed to be a dip in the middle of the mattress, which we felt could cause a baby to roll or slide. While inexpensive, it didn’t have the sturdier feel of other models, and the quality of the fabric and materials was lower as well.

Pros

  • Inexpensive

Cons

  • Not sturdy

  • Low quality material
