Gateway Bank renews its sponsorship of Bob Downey

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. — Gateway Bank is pleased to announce it has renewed its sponsorship of Bob Downey. Downey will compete in the Bassmaster Elite Series for his third season.

Bob Downey, son of Gateway Bank President Bruce Downey, will again be competing in the Bassmaster Elite Series. The season begins on St. John’s River in Palatka, Fla., in February and concludes on the Mississippi River in La Crosse, Wis., in August. In between are seven other stops in Texas, New York, South Carolina, South Dakota and Tennessee. The Bassmaster Elite Series is the highest level of professional bass fishing and will be broadcast live on Bassmaster.com and FS1.

Downey competed in the Bassmaster Elite Series in 2020 and 2021. Downey originally gained a spot in the Elite Series by finishing fifth in the 2019 Bassmaster Central Open Angler of the Year standings. He earned enough points throughout the past two seasons to requalify for the 2022 Elite Series. We at Gateway Bank are excited to watch him again compete in the Elite Series, especially with the final tournament so close to home.

Downey is a native of Eagan, Minn., and has been fishing since he was 2 years old. When Downey turned 14, he started fishing in Jr. B.A.S.S Nation tournaments. When he turned 18, Downey joined the Lakes Area Bassmaster where he competed in adult competitions. While in college at the University of Iowa, he had the opportunity to travel across the U.S. and gain experience fishing with the Iowa Fishing Club. Downey currently lives in Hudson, Wis.

Gateway Bank CEO John Schreier comments, “We at Gateway Bank are thrilled to again sponsor Bob Downey as he continues to pursue his dream competing as a professional fisherman. We had the good fortune to have Bob take out a few of our clients this past summer on local lakes for a day of fishing and are looking forward to that again in 2022. We wish Bob all the best throughout the year.”
