Levelland girls win District 3-4A cross country title

The Levelland girls, led by top-five finishes from Addysyn Hill and McKenna Ruiz, won the District 3-4A cross country championship Thursday at Mae Simmons Park.

Hill ran the 2-mile course in 13 minutes, 36.49 seconds for third place. Her teammates Ruiz and Ariani Lopez were close behind in fifth and sixth with times of 13:53.82 and 14:01.62, respectively.

Two more Loboettes placed in the top 10, Hailey Castellano ninth in 14:15.27 and Evelyn Mendias 10th in 14:16.21.

Snyder and Estacado took second and third in the girls standings. The overall winner was Big Spring's Elisabeth Jones in 13:17.96. Snyder's Mary Kerr (13:29.50) and Kinsey Kelley (13:47.03) were second and fourth, respectively.

Leading the Estacado contingent were Kelsey Chapman (14:09.82) in seventh and Alezia Villarreal (14:58.21) in 12th.

Big Spring dominated the boys' 5-kilometer race with the top three finishers and five in the top seven. The Steers, with 19 points, outpaced second-place Snyder, which had 54, and third-place Levelland, which had 66.

Roman Perez, Adrian Solis and Isaac Gonzales finished 1-2-3 for Big Spring.

Snyder's Antonio Martinez (18:04.59), Kevin Miranda (18:35.57) and Jeremiah Rodriguez (18:48.26) got fourth, fifth and eighth, respectively. Matt Bautista (18:49.64) led Levelland.

Mae Simmons Park also is the site of the Region I cross country meets for all classifications on Oct. 25. The top three teams and top 10 individuals from district meets qualify for the regional.
