Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt is discussing concerns some Oklahomans have over President Biden’s vaccine mandate and how it will affect local business.

President Biden mandated vaccines for federal government employees and health care workers in September but is now turning his attention to businesses across the country.

Governor Stitt, along with several Oklahoma lawmakers and attorney generals, is continuing to push back against the federal vaccine mandate.

In a press release, Attorney General John O'Connor said he's encouraging employers to ignore Biden's vaccine mandate for businesses.

"There are currently no rules that require employers to mandate the COVID-19 vaccine for employees," O'Conner said. "I urge Oklahoma employers to disregard the Biden Administration’s wishes to the contrary."

Stitt said he doesn't believe the government should dictate policies to private companies, and that businesses should have the freedom to make decisions based on their circumstances.

"Just as I believe Joe Biden can’t tell businesses they have to mandate a vaccine — I don’t believe the government should tell a company they can’t," Stitt said in a video.

Stitt said he's spoken with thousands of employees across the state who feel the vaccine mandate is unjust.

"I’ve heard from pregnant, soon-to-be mothers who are faced with an impossible choice: Get the vaccine or lose your job," Stitt said.

Stitt said companies should be allowed exemptions on the vaccine mandate for religious, medical, or personal reasons.
