TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University tennis team will host the Fall Tiger Classic from Friday, Oct. 15 to Sunday, Oct. 17 for its final tournament of the fall.
The three-day event will welcome eight teams and feature hidden dual style matches.
Tournament Information:
Facility: Towson University Outdoor Tennis Courts
Start Times: Friday – 3 p.m., Saturday – 8 a.m., Sunday – 9 a.m.
Teams Participating: Towson University (2 teams), Saint Joseph's, Mount St. Mary's, Johns Hopkins, Delaware State, Coppin State and Georgetown.
Format: Each hidden dual match will be composed of 4 singles and one doubles pair. Format will change slightly on Saturday afternoon to two singles and two doubles matches. All matches will be best of three sets (with a super tiebreaker for the third set), including all doubles as well.
LAST TIME OUT
Last weekend Towson competed at Navy's Blue and Gold Invitational in Annapolis, Maryland. Themis Haliou advanced to the flight A quarterfinals before falling to the No. 1-seeded player. Two other Tigers advanced to their consolation flight finals in Sarah Pospischill and Lea Kosanovic.
SPRING RECAP
The black & gold finished the spring 2021 season with a 7-14 overall record. Themis got three wins at the No. 1 spot and five at the No. 3. Lawson also picked up eight wins courts three and four. Pospischill won 11 matches between playing on courts four, five and six. Jessica Assenmacher also secured seven wins on the last two courts.
NEW FACES
In addition to the nine returners, head coach Jamie Peterson welcomed three new student-athletes to the team in the offseason. Freshmen Sissi Axelsson and Nadeen Shrebati both joined the squad from Sweden and Australia, respectively. Sophomore Olivia Rothfeld also transferred from Georgia Southern.
