Words of Grace 10/7

By Rev. Mahlon Nevel

The Bible begins with the book of Genesis. Genesis begins with the words “in the beginning.”

Many things are said to have their beginning in Genesis. It was during that time that men began to call upon the name of the Lord.

That was the beginning of the prayer, for prayer is simply to call upon the name of the Lord. “It shall come to pass, “saith the Lord, “that when they call, I will answer. “

When God called Abraham to leave his country and go to the land that was promised to him, he obeyed. Going up onto a mountain, he built an altar unto the Lord. It was then and there that Abraham called upon the name of the Lord.

The prayer of David, and Psalm 4:1 was, “Hear me when I call, O God.” Then, with confidence, David declared, “the Lord will hear when I call on to him” (v.3).

David knew what to do when he was in trouble. The Lord told him to call upon him in the day of trouble, and he would deliver him. (Psalm 50 :15)

“Call unto me, “ the Lord said to Jeremiah, “ and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not “ ( 33:3). The Apostle Paul was quoting from the prophecy of Joel when he wrote that whosoever would call upon the name of the Lord would be saved. (Romans 10:13) “Whosoever will may come.”
