Manchester United have an obvious weakness in their side and it wasn’t addressed this summer. The club identified several positions in need of strengthening and blockbuster moves were made for Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane, and Cristiano Ronaldo.

There were, however, frustrations from many supporters over the club’s lack of drive to sign a midfielder, with the current crop of players still without a recognised defensive midfielder.

AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie fits the bill and he could be exactly what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking for. The Ivorian is a mainstay in the Italian side and has been linked with a move to Old Trafford recently. He is valued at a whopping €55m by Transfermarkt but could leave the Milano club for nothing next summer.

Kessie is out of contract at the San Siro and would therefore be available on a free transfer, something that would certainly catch the eye of some of Europe’s biggest clubs. The 24-year-old, who prefers to operate at the heart of the midfield, scored 14 goals and assisted a further six as he helped AC Milan return to the Champions League for the first time since 2014.
