DICE has revealed details regarding Battlefield 2042's Hazard Zone mode. Described as “a tense, squad-focused survival experience," Hazard Zone is a squad-based PvPvE game mode where your ultimate objective is to extract data drives. The mode will have a total of 32 players racing for extraction on next-gen platforms, while the total player count will be 24 for previous-gen players. A squad will consist of four players, and although the mode might sound like a battle royale with an objective, DICE has ensured that this mode isn't battle royale-inspired.

Unlike traditional battle royale modes, the main objective of Hazard Zone is to collect data drives and extract, not killing and being the last squad standing. There is also an emphasis on making sure you're battle-ready. After a squad successfully extracts data drives, they will be rewarded with Dark Market Credits, which is Battlefield 2042's in-game currency that is exclusive for Hazard Zone. Players can use the currency to purchase new weapons, gadgets, or upgrade their specialists before matches.

The Hazard Zone might look simple, just collect and extract, but there is a catch. There will be only two limited-time events during a single match where players will be able to extract. There will also be a storm that'll make things even more difficult for the players, while the mode will also feature AI bots that are not on your side. The odds don't look very good! The action will take place on all the All-Out Warfare maps, as the mode will not have a separate map.

Players can also be killed and revived during the game mode. If you are shot down and your teammates fail to revive you before you pass out completely, you'll enter the spectator screen where you can watch your teammates, but the rest of your team can still bring you back with Reinforcement Uplinks.

Hazard Zone will be available at launch alongside traditional Battlefield modes and Battlefield Portal, where players can create their own Battlefield experience. Battlefield 2042 will launch on November 19 and will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
