Robin Williams’s daughter asks fans not to send Costa impersonation clip to her

Voice actor Jamie Costa surprised the internet Monday when he released a five-minute video of him impersonating comedian Robin Williams.

The video, called “ROBIN Test Footage Scene,” shows Williams finding out about the death of his close friend and fellow comedian John Belushi, who died of a drug overdose.

Costa’s scene takes place on the set of the 1970s show Mork and Mindy, which was about an alien named Mork, played by Williams, who came to Earth and falls in love with a human woman named Mindy. The show was a spinoff of one episode of the show Happy Days. Pam Dawber, who played Mindy, was also in Costa’s video as herself.

THE SMILE AND DESPAIR OF ROBIN WILLIAMS

Robin Williams’s daughter, Zelda Williams, praised Costa’s performance but asked fans to stop sending her the video, saying the day they found out about Belushi was one of the hardest days for her father, who died by suicide in 2014.

“Guys, I’m only saying this because I don’t think it’ll stop until I acknowledge it … please, stop sending me the ‘test footage’. I’ve seen it,” she tweeted. “Jamie is SUPER talented, this isn’t against him, but y’all spamming me an impression of my late Dad on one of his saddest days is weird.”

Williams was diagnosed with Lewy body dementia around the time of his death. His wife and some medical experts believe his death was caused by mood swings and depression symptomatic of his dementia.

Costa’s impersonations led fans to call for a biopic with Costa playing the lead role, though no movie has been announced.
