Baldur’s Gate 3 has been available via Steam Early Access for a solid year. The sixth path, helpfully called Patch 6: Forging the Arcane, adds an entirely new area that continues the story past the ending point of the Early Access build, along with the Sorcerer class and other new features and updates.
The new class is the Sorcerer, an arcane spellcaster who casts spells naturally, and doesn’t need a spellbook like those lame wizards. The Sorcerer can empower spells using Metamagic, and fuel them with Sorcery Points. Two different kinds of Sorcerers have been added, both from the base Fifth Edition rulebook: Wild Magic, and Draconic. Wild Magic Sorcerers can gain advantage on different rolls, at the cost of a random effect. Draconic Sorcerers choose an elemental bloodline from different color dragons that enhance their elemental spells.
Along with the Sorcerer come several new spells from D&D 5e, including Horrific Visage, Chromatic Orb, and Cloud of Daggers.
The newly added region is Gymforge, an ancient fortress found in the Underdark. Gymforge features hours of new quests, cinematics, and combat encounters.
Other big improvements added in Patch 6 include signature moves for each weapon, more orchestral music, and a big graphical upgrade to each area’s lighting, colors, and particle effects.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently available on Steam via Early Access. The developers have previously stated that at least one year in Early Access is likely – which we’ve now hit. Earlier this year lead developer Swen Vincke of Larian Studios confirmed that Baldur’s Gate 3 will not fully release this year, and that they’re working hard on a 2022 release date. The massive tactical RPG is rated M for Mature.
