Ruin Raiders, described as an anthropomorphic turn-based tactical roguelike, releases today on Nintendo Switch and PC. The game is developed by Spanish studio OverPowered Team and published by indie game publisher Freedom Games. Check out the launch trailer below.
Ruin Raiders takes place amidst the remains of an ancient civilization. In the game, players take control of animal adventurers to battle it out in turn-based combat against an onslaught of enemies. The animals in the game have to navigate a labyrinth in search of long-lost riches. Players can outfit their squads with hundreds of items such as weapons, skill-boosting enhancements, and abilities. All of which players will need to battle the enemies waiting in the procedurally generated world.
Animal team members in Ruin Raiders have specific abilities that players can utilize in different ways to get the upper hand on opponents. Players can also uncover blueprints to craft new weapons and attachments to upgrade their characters before delving deeper into the ruins. Players also have the option to upgrade their base by collecting Eternium. When players have enough Eternium they will be able to purchase base upgrades. Players can also choose to spend Eternium on additional animal species for expanding their teams.
The turn-based strategy in Ruin Raiders is described by OverPowered Team as being all about character positioning. The key to success in Ruin Raiders is all about how players position their characters during the battle. Bad positioning can mean the battle is lost before it has begun, while good positioning can ensure your teams’ success. Ruin Raiders is all about strategizing your win and thinking several moves ahead of where you already are.
Ruin Raiders releases today on Nintendo Switch and PC on Steam and the Epic Game Store. The game is currently on sale as a launch discount to early buyers for $15.99.
