Chip shortage could delay the Google Pixel Watch’s launch

It has been rumored for a while now that Google could be working on their own smartwatch. For the longest time ever, Google’s Wear OS platform saw other companies make their own smartwatches, and given that Google made its own hardware in the form of Nexus and Pixel phones, a Google-made smartwatch made sense.

It has also been suggested that Google’s October 19th event could see the company finally take the wraps off the smartwatch, but that might no longer be the case. A report from MySmartPrice suggests that Google could actually delay the launch of the Pixel Watch.

This is allegedly due to the global chip shortage which has affected just about everyone in the industry, and as a result, the company might be holding back on the announcement. That being said, the tipster who shared the information with the publication says that alternatively, Google could still announce the smartwatch but launch it later.

This is something that Apple did when they announced the Apple Watch last month but due to the chip shortage, it only became available last week.

To be fair to Google, the company hasn’t explicitly said what they would be announcing so this is just pure speculation at this point in time. Either way, we should have more information next week so check back with us on the 19th for more details about Google’s Pixel 6 smartphones, and hopefully its smartwatch and its rumored foldable phone.
