A former local football standout will spend the next two years on probation for assaulting a woman.
Jarron Jones was arrested last October, accused of strangling the victim and hitting her over the head with an Xbox console.
The felony charges against him were dropped.
On Oct. 6, a judge in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania sentenced him for misdemeanor simple assault.
Jones was put on probation for two years, was ordered to have no contact with the victim, and must successfully complete a batterer's intervention program.
After graduating from Aquinas Institute, Jones played for the University of Notre Dame.
He has been a member of several NFL teams' practice squads, including the Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers. He is not currently on an NFL roster.
