The Invincible Teaser Trailer Showcases a Retro-Future Sci-Fi Thriller

Starward Industries just released a new teaser trailer for The Invincible, a cinematic sci-fi thriller coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S in 2022. This is our first real look at the indie project, and though there’s not much gameplay shown, we get a taste of the game’s impressive Unreal Engine visuals and otherworldly atmosphere. Hopefully, the mystery will continue to unfold while we wait for more, but for now, you can watch The Invincible teaser trailer below.

Starward revealed The Invincible in September of last year, originally promising a 2021 release date. That schedule may not have panned out, but the delay to 2022 will likely be worth it. The studio describes The Invincible as its dream project, and it is inspired by Polish author Stanisław Lem’s novel of the same name. Here is how Starward describes its game:

You are a scientist onboard an interstellar scientific expedition, suddenly thrown into a life-or-death rescue mission. Landing on a planet Regis III you have to find the missing crew members using some advanced space equipment, whilst relying on your brains and instincts to survive on the planet which quickly occurs to be unwelcoming. Soon you’ll discover that Regis III holds terrifying secrets which are uncovered while you’re piecing together the fate of your crew. And as you delve deeper into the mystery, you realise that perhaps you are not alone and that some places like this planet are better left untouched. But it’s too late to turn back.

Starward adds that The Invincible puts players in retro-futuristic settings that call back to the space race era, with the addition of technology that strikes a balance between advanced and primitive, and the teaser trailer reflects that. The Invincible will also see players making choices that impact the game’s non-linear narrative, something hammered home in the teaser video’s description, which warns “there are consequences to the actions you take.”

Polish developer Starward comprises developers with a history of working on AAA titles like Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Dying Light, and more. Some of that talent already shows in the visuals from today’s trailer, so let’s hope we see more in the near future.
