SAUGERTIES, N.Y. — The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal collision between a First Student school bus and a dump truck Thursday morning on Main Street at U.S. Route 9W in the hamlet of Malden, officials said.

The Sheriff’s Office reported that the dump truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The dump truck driver was not identified, pending notification of relatives.

There were no children on the bus when the accident happened, according to the Saugerties School District.

Sgt. Collin Reynolds of the Sheriff’s Office said the crash was reported to Ulster 911 at about 8:50 a.m.

According to the Saugerties School District website, the driver of the bus “did not appear to have any injuries” but was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

The roadway remains close as police complete an accident reconstruction. The district advised parents that afternoon drop-offs may be delayed as a result.
