Newly acquired veteran Carmelo Anthony offered up a surprising take amid the Los Angeles Lakers having a winless preseason.

The Lakers are no stranger to losing season-opening games but ending up as NBA champions, rising above the league's tough competition along the way. During the 2019-2020 season, the Lakers lost to the Clippers on opening night but ended the season as the league's best.

After losing, 111-99, against Golden State with LeBron James, Russell Westbrook, and Anthony Davis playing together, the Lakers are now 0-5 in the preseason, adding a fair amount of worry to their supporters.

Meanwhile, Anthony stresses that the team remains optimistic despite these losses.

Via the Los Angeles Times:

“We can see how we jell together. I thought we had some great moments when all four of us were on the court together,” Anthony said. “We had spurts where we were very in-tune, we were locked in. We don’t expect it to happen overnight. But I thought yesterday was one of those moments where like, ‘OK, we see that, we see that.’

“It looks good. It felt good. I believe we will build off of that.”

“You find your groove,” Anthony said. “I think we’ll figure it out much quicker than people are giving us credit for. But that’s on us. That’s something, we take that challenge. That’s something we know and that’s something we talk about. Even though it’s preseason and we lost some games, that’s definitely something that we talk about. How do we speed that process up without cheating?

“And I think we’re very aware when it comes to that.”

With the accumulated injuries of key players and struggles throughout the preseason, some fans may think LA will lose their season opener against the Warriors, and there are doubts of the team's consistency throughout the season.

However, with the amount of talent and experience available for the Lakers, endless possibilities show that this team can prevail.
