Metroid Dread’s Launch Causes Sales Boost for Other Games in the Franchise

Metroid Dread's successful launch has seemingly urged players to purchase other games in the series, at least in the UK.

Following the recent launch of Metroid Dread on the Nintendo Switch, Metroid fan page Shinesparkers has taken to Twitter to reveal some rather interesting information. In the UK, Metroid games on different platforms have seen a resurgence in sales following the latest game’s release.

As noted in the tweet, Wii U’s top seller is currently Metroid Fusion. Metroid Zero Mission, Metroid Prime Trilogy, and Super Metroid occupy the 2nd, 7th, and 9th place respectively. Metroid: Samus Returns currently sits at the 3rd position on the 3DS. An important point worth noting is that these sales figures are from the system’s respective eShops in the UK region.

Metroid Dread has been enjoying great critical and commercial reception, becoming the fastest selling Metroid game in the UK, and enjoying the best ever launch for a Metroid game in Japan.

Of course, the Switch OLED has also been enjoying some great sales figures following its recent launch. To that effect, rumors of Switch 2 have alighted recently, as a notable insider suggests a targeted late 2022/early 2023 release window.
