Coldplay Announce 2022 World Tour Ahead of New Album ‘Music of the Spheres,’ Out 10/15

Get ready for a lot of Coldplay in 2022.

On Thursday, the band lifted the curtain on a massive world tour scheduled for the spring, attached to a promise to make “the tour as sustainable and low-carbon as possible,” per the band’s official announcement. Here’s a tour video:

“Playing live and finding connection with people is ultimately why we exist as a band. We’ve been planning this tour for years, and we’re super excited to play songs from across our whole time together.

At the same time, we’re very conscious that the planet is facing a climate crisis. So we’ve spent the last two years consulting with environmental experts to make this tour as sustainable as possible, and, just as importantly, to harness the tour’s potential to push things forward. We won’t get everything right, but we’re committed to doing everything we can and sharing what we learn. It’s a work in progress and we’re really grateful for the help we’ve had so far.

News of this big tour comes on the eve of the release of Music of the Spheres, the ninth studio album from Chris Martin and the long-running English pop/rock legends. It’s been previewed in recent weeks with a handful of tracks that make it obvious the group is reaching for even loftier aims than it has in the past — and that’s saying something, given the grandiosity of the group’s music over the years.
